I’m so blessed to be able to be here in Africa and see what an impact a community of believers can have… even half a world away.

I’m all ready to go.

I’m praying that God allows me to decrease in every way and that He alone would be a visitor to the country of Ghana.

I believe with my whole heart that the person I’ve known, the person who has lied, cheated, stolen, lusted, and failed… that person is dead on the cross with Christ.  The life I live today, right now, here:  is lived in Christ.

The very life that saturates the universe, the very life that created all things and for whom all things are created, the life that is the light of men:  that life resides in me.  And in you.  And we’re all renewed and being renewed because that life is not dead.  That life is Life.

So… prayers and snuggles with the lovely wife, a healthy night’s rest, a drive and a flight.

In two days I’ll be leaving for a two-week long trip to Ghana.  I’m excited, thrilled, and honored that I’ve been given this opportunity.

I’ll be using this blog to share updates, to post photos, and to share some thoughts as I prepare to leave and when I get a chance while I’m overseas.

The purpose is to oversee and document the story of the water wells going in that we raised funds for during the Advent Conspiracy. We had a goal of $15,000 and ended up raising over $40,000!!  That means several fresh-water wells and a filtration center in a region of Ghana where CVC has been ministering for many years.

30 churches have been started among the Nzema people in western Ghana, along with a handful of micro-enterprise projects, including a palm-nut farm, a refinery for palm-nut oil, and a soap factory where they use the palm-nut oil to make soap!  So, sustainable economy projects have been in development among all of the 30 churches, serving by helping raise people from out of poverty.

I’m going on the trip to capture the story of what’s been happening in Ghana.  I’ll be taking cameras and documenting the wells and getting stories of what CVC has been doing in Ghana to use to advance this year’s Advent campaign and hopefully be able to put in more wells next year.

Today I had my first experience shooting on a real camera. On Saturday I’m leaving for Ghana in West Africa to participate in and document some new fresh-water wells being dug. I figured I should bring a decent camera. My dear friend, Adam loaned me his. My dear friend, Stephen took me on a photography lesson today.

Within two minutes of walking down the street, we came upon these boys in capes riding bikes. We stopped to meet them and talked with Pete, a violinmaker; their father. We talked for about an hour.

Then we walked, talked, and kept shooting.

So… here’s my first day with a real camera.

Sevenoseven is a community of people of faith.  It’s the community I’ve called home for nearly six years.  That amazes me.  We’ve seen so many people come, so many people experience life together, and many people go and live lives of purpose and meaning.  I’m thankful.

Last spring, I had the honor of partnering with The Reckoning International to produce Cambridge Songs, a collection of seven of my original songs.

When you buy this CD it helps the poor.  Not with a hand out, but with an opportunity.  Proceeds from this recording will help fund micro-finance projects for third-world entrepreneurs.
